Dancing with Rabbit Holes and Real Life

I sat down the other day with one clear mission: Research for the next book.

I had my coffee, my notebook, and an optimistic to-do list that basically said, “Finish all the things.” I opened up the Book of Enoch… and before I knew it, I was deep in a maze of ancient texts, Nephilim theories, and cross-referencing verses that most people skip right past.

What started as a focused study turned into a full-blown theological expedition. And I loved every second of it — until life knocked on the door (literally and figuratively).

Someone needed a snack, someone else needed help finding a missing shoe, and the dog decided it was time for an emergency walk. The dishes called my name (loudly), and the pile of laundry looked like it was staging a coup.

I always think I’ll have these big, uninterrupted stretches of time to write and study, but real life has a funny way of stepping in with its own agenda.

Yet, maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be. The rabbit holes I fall into, the daily distractions, the unexpected moments — they all become threads woven into the bigger tapestry of my writing (and my faith).

It’s easy to get frustrated when the “plan” falls apart. But sometimes, those interruptions bring the insights I didn’t know I needed. A conversation with my daughter might spark a character’s voice. A stray thought while folding towels might solve a plot hole I’ve been stuck on for weeks.

So, if you’re in a season where it feels like life keeps interrupting your deep dives and creative flow, take heart. The process might be messier than the pretty schedules we write down, but it’s still sacred.

Here’s to the rabbit holes, the half-finished cups of coffee, the ancient mysteries, and the beautiful chaos of everyday life. The next book is coming… slowly, but surely.
